IsoBuster can recover lost data from multiple sources, including practically every disc reader, hard disks, memory cards and USB sticks. More than just that, it also allows recovering data from not only the storage devices mentioned but also various types of image files. Likewise, it is compatible with all file systems.

The application is certainly not as easy to use as other similar programs, but perhaps the availability of wizards to guide the users through the recovery process could solve this problem. The interface looks very much alike that of Windows File Explorer. There’s a left panel in which partitions and folders are shown in a tree-like hierarchy, while the main panel displays their contents.

The tool can solve the problems with damaged or poorly recorded optical discs. I tested it with some old discs I keep, and it successfully managed to reconstruct defective data into readable files. Similarly, it can play music from scratched analog audio CDs. Furthermore, it can also perform surface scans and inform the users about the errors found.

In general, IsoBuster has the advantage of supporting much more types of data storage devices than any other recovery software I know. Another important advantage of IsoBuster is that it supports managed image files. This way, you don´t need to extract all the contents of a disc in a single session.

It even allows starting a copy on a disc reader and continue the process on another. Moreover, if errors are encountered during the reading, these blocks are marked as defective and may be filled with the right data at later tries.
